Why I think marijuana should be legal

Marijuanas ban was strictly based on lies and manipulated facts, marijuana has been held illegal with no real basis for such action, no real evidence, and most arguments against it rely on misconceptions. Marijuana has been used for dozens of years, even the founders of our country have been found to have had planted cannabis, it is impossible for me to understand the irrational reasons for a plant to be illegal, ignorance and xenophobia is no reason enough to prevent a plant in which other wise we would all largely share its benefits from both medical and recreational uses. Lets face it, this ban might as well be invisible, marijuana is being used by people of all kinds, good honest people with no threat to society, war on drugs is obsolete producing no real results, it has been shown that marijuana use has increased rather than decreased. Marijuana is slightly addictive, you might as well become more addicted to coffee then marijuana, yet, we all have a cup of coffee in the morning and its accepted even though this is also a drug. Alcohol kills over 5000 people each year yet not a single death has been linked to marijuana, cigarettes may lead to lung cancer, yet, no cancer cases have been found to be linked to marijuana, this are all legal drugs, legal drugs killing people yet marijuana is seen as heinous by most of American society which is led to believe so. I believe the ban on marijuana is a violation to individual freedom, one should be able to choose freely whether they would decide to smoke marijuana or no, whether one disagrees should not merely affect another's rights, if you do not agree you have the choice to avoid it. This incoherent ban i nothing but an insult to democracy. In conclusion we most prevent this unjust action to take over our lifes, I myself choose to fight against it.
